Disc Label Printing
For DVD, CD and Blu-ray Discs

For best possible results and fastest turnaround, we prefer to generate film from client supplied digital files. Our website contains templates which are within Expedia Media specs for use in creating your files. Use of the templates will help speed up the production of your printing job. Contact your CSR to get information on our in-house pre-press service bureau if you have design questions.

Printing Area for Single Side Read-out Discs
DVD5, DVD9, and Blu-ray (BD) Discs

Maximum printing area is over a 117mm diameter with a 22mm center hole knock out. There is no requirement for a stacking ring knock out, but any size knock out at a diameter greater than 23mm can be used if desired.

Color Choices

Expedia Media can reproduce any color from the "Pantone1 Color Formula Guide 1000" as well as the "Pantone Metallic, Fluorescent, and Pastel Color Guides." Expedia Media can print up to 6 colors, including a 1-color background. If printing 4-color process, more brilliant colors can be achieved by utilizing a solid white background. You should include this in your digital file or furnish it as a separate piece of film.

Type Size and Ruling for Label Print

In order for the product to be legibly reproduced, film/file must conform to the following:

  • Minimum type size for positive printing is 4 points.
  • Minimum type size for reverse and knockout printing is 6 points.
  • Minimum type size stroke width as well as rule or line width is 0.25 points for positive printing and 0.5 points for reverse and knockout printing.

Depending on your design, better results are achieved either by overprinting type (rather than knocking it out) or by under-printing a solid white background when knocking type out of a 4-color image. Be aware that it will appear silver under any areas of your artwork where the image knocks out if you don’t under print a color such as white. Also, unlike CD, the silver layer is inside the disc and can create a double image. We strongly recommend that you avoid all script typefaces as well as type with thin serifs for type that knocks out.
Apply a ½-point (0.175mm or 0.007”) trap whenever conditions permit. See stacking-ring side print restrictions for additional information.

80 mm DVD Disc

See figure 3. We offer silkscreen printing on an 80mm DVD Disc. The standard printing area for the 80mm DVD Disc is 76 mm to the outside diameter and 23mm to the center area.
